The fact that David was a Councillor for so many years speaks volumes about his humanity. His poetry, too, showed empathy for the underprivileged as well as a love of nature. He was the obvious choice by the Stoke Poges Society to judge the entries for the 3 years in which the enormously successful Thomas Gray Tercentenary poetry competition was held. He was also so helpful in bringing water and tools to the work-party volunteers at Gray’s NT memorial just opposite “The Retreat”. Personally, we found David to be calm, cheerful and always so welcoming when I was given the privilege of using your lovely house for my SPWG talks. He will be sadly missed not only by his family and wide circle of friends, but also by the whole community of which he played a significant role. Bless you, Brigid. Xx
